Cristian Suteanu


Biography

Dr. Cristian Suteanu is an Associate Professor in the Geography Department and in the Environmental Studies Program at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada. He is also involved in research, teaching, and thesis supervision at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. He holds an M.Phil. from the University of Bucharest, Romania, and a Ph.D. in Physics of the Earth from the Romanian Academy, Bucharest. Before joining Saint Mary’s University in 2002, he was affiliated with the Institute of Geodynamics of the Romanian Academy (Bucharest). Most of his research and teaching activities have been dedicated to geosystems and human-environment relations, with special emphasis on the role of informational processes. His main research topics concern system analysis and modeling, environmental change, natural hazards and their human impact, geosemiotics and environmental communication. He is the editor-in-chief of Paideusis – Journal for Interdisciplinary and Cross-Cultural Studies, and a member of editorial boards and reviewer committees of journals in the natural and the social sciences. He has organized scholarly communication events both in science and the humanities, including the First International Environmental Information Dynamics Workshop and sessions in the framework of the Atlantic Geoscience Society, the Seismological Society of America, the American Geophysical Union, and the International Association for Cultural Studies.
